Located within the contemporary surroundings of the former St Barnabas Church, Dartmouth Apprentice cooks modern Italian food. What makes Dartmouth Apprentice stand out is that 100% of all its profits is reinvested to help unemployed people.

Dartmouth Apprentice is owned by the charity Training for Life and is the second Apprentice restaurant co-founded by the social entrepreneur Gordon Da Silva and the celebrated chef and restaurateur, Prue Leith. Consultant Chef Clemente Maiorano devised the original menu, set up and oversaw the operation of the kitchen during the first season, before handing over to the permanent team in early 2009.

The emphasis is on simple food, made from fresh local produce and enhanced with the best ingredients from Italy. Dishes range from traditional classics to modern Mediterranean cooking and are served in the first floor restaurant with fabulous views of the River Dart.

Situated in the heart of Dartmouth this stylish brasserie serves a range of local foods and wines in a relaxed and friendly setting. Chef, Richard Hilson, trained at Gidleigh Park under Michael Caines and brings with him a wealth of culinary knowledge which has now earned him and his team a coveted second AA rosette and an entry into the Michelin guide.

The menu reflects the relaxed style of dining offered without the formal emphasis on set menus. There is an emphasis on fresh local fish, shellfish and carefully reared meat along with good fresh local produce.

The Seahorse is run by Mitch Tonks and Mat Prowse and specialises in the freshest local fish, seafood and meats cooked over a wood burning fire. The restaurant is situated on the banks of the river Dart overlooking the water, the atmosphere is relaxed and families are welcome.

The seafood is sourced from the local fishermen and the nearby port of Brixham. Depending on the season and the weather you can expect to find, prawns, lobster, crab, bass, scallops, turbot, soles, mullet and lots more.

Owner Shahar Lashkor and his team offer creative cuisine using locally produced ingredients and incorporating the delicate flavour of Asian spices. Owned by Ben and Jackie Handley since March 2008 The Laughing Monk is in village of Strete. The food and service are consistently good. All the fish and shell-fish is sourced straight from local fisherman. The meats come from Local Devon Farmers and their philosophy is keep it simple and let the produce be the star. Well worth a visit.
